Christmas 2007 friend poem
"Weigh Every Choice"
When opening your gift this year,
With shock you’ll say, “A scale?”
Therefore, the many reasons
It’s important I shall tell:
For measuring ingredients, ensuring right amounts;
To have a perfect outcome of a meal.
If all your weights and measurements
Are accurate and just right,
Your friends will think you cook with style and skill.
When thinking of a kitchen scale,
A diet comes to mind,
But if you’re thinking smart
You’ll know there’s more,
That kitchen scales can do
To make your meals have great appeal;
And make them turn out wonderful for sure.
Let’s say you’re making apple pie,
You go into the store
And purchase five green apples for the treat.
A European recipe is not amounts, but grams;
Which makes your apple pie more full and sweet!
You’ll find much more consistency
When using kitchen scales,
And thus, a more successful finished dish.
So go enjoy your kitchen scales
And everything they weigh,
And may this Christmas grant your greatest wish.
And while we’re weighing foods to eat,
There’s more that we have weighed,
We’ve weighed the many choices
Through our life that we have made.
Now it seems to me a kitchen scale
Could represent our life,
And the choices we each make
While we serve as mom and wife.
I’ve weighed so many times how
You’ve been “weigh” great friends to me.
I’ve weighed our many lunches
That have filled my life with glee.
We’ve weighed the “weigh” we’ve raised our kids--
Too harsh or else too easy?
Yet still, no matter how we chose,
It wasn’t always breezy.
A scale is quite consistent,
Though adjustments must be made.
Along the “weigh” we’ve also
Altered attitudes, and prayed.
As there are many kinds of scales,
There are many kinds of friends.
You’ve helped show me the “weigh” to go
For enduring to the end.
With every thought and action,
With every word and deed,
You’ve weighed your choices wisely--
You’re a great and awesome breed.
You’ve given me so many years
Of therapy and fun.
Your friendship weighs so precious
When my Christmas day is done.
Autumn 2007 - Foxhill Ward Reunion
To the tune of "Sweet Caroling"-by the bishopric
Look at the ward
And it just seems so awesome
We get our high by serving you.
And when I help
Helpin’ runs off my shoulders
How can I fail when I’m helping you.
Ward, helping ward
Reachin’ out
Helpin’ me
Helpin’ you
Sweet Foxhill Ward
Good time never seemed so good
I’d be inclined
To believe they never would
Oh no, no
(Clap if you fill it)
And. . . . . .Sweet Foxhill Ward
Good time never seem so good
I’d be inclined
To believe they never would
Sweet Foxhill Ward!
August 2007-Wedding Poem
I have so many memories
Of a charming, gorgeous girl
Who came to live in North Salt Lake.
She is a gem--a pearl.
She shared the story of her life.
It wasn’t always fun;
But I knew she’d rise triumphant
When the end of day had come.
You shared with me some poems one day
(to write we like to do).
I don’t know if you have copies
So, I return them now to you.
May you keep up this great talent,
All throughout your life;
Especially as you start this role
Of being Danny’s wife.
I thank you for my memories.
For the way you’ve made me think;
And how well you have grown up my dear,
Before I could even blink!
And now you’re getting married--
Could you really be that old?
Still I know the lucky fellow
Has found in Cass true gold.
With much love and fondness,
May 2007 for Mom for Mother's Day
For 55 years you’ve been my mother,
And if I were to choose, there’d be no other
That I would have picked--you’re the perfect one.
You make every moment in life so fun.
You’re spiritual, funny, creative and kind,
Well-traveled, well-read, and you have a great mind.
Your computer savvy rivals the best.
All who enter your home feel like honored guests.
That “happy gene” we received from you
Has helped with the struggles we all go through.
Your ability with the written word
Is so incredible it’s almost absurd--
From missionary letters to funeral thoughts,
To birthday “epistles”, you’ve written lots!
You’ve lifted the downtrodden, helped the poor.
You are the mother I truly adore.
I ask myself daily why I was so blessed
With a mom so superior to all the rest.
It’s a wonderful life I have, that’s true;
But the joy from each moment I owe to you.
Limericks
I wrote these limericks on things Utah for some contest the paper was doing, but none won :(
Food Storage
There once was a city of Salt.
It was built on a sizable fault.
The earthquake did come,
But the folks were not glum;
They had two years of food in their vault.
Hey Everybody!
When the Beatles were singing their songs,
They once to Salt Lake came along.
Not a soul was in sight.
It was on Monday night.
So they had to sing elsewhere, to throngs!
Fruitella Fanning
A woman named Fruitella Fanning
Developed a passion for canning.
The nuclear blast
To her jars soon did pass.
Now her fruit for consumption they’re banning!
Reality
When a sports team moved into our city
We built them a field that was pretty.
While our schools lacked millions,
Our sports team got billions.
Fields expand, while young minds grow quite bitty.
March 2007-Pauls boarding poem
Paul wrote it but it was too good so I had to include it
"A Boarder's Paradise"
Excitement builds as I lay out my gear,
In preparation for the day ahead.
An early sleep brings dreams of fun to come
With boards, boots, beanies, snow and noses red.
The mountain top looks great as I arrive.
I powder-bury skiers in my path,
As through the trees I fly on wings of wood;
And pity those who feel the boarders wrath.
I hit a jump. I’m spinning through the air.
I land the perfect trick; a gnarly five.
As I approach the longest rail in sight
I grind and slide; I’m feeling so alive.
The slopes were great but in my perfect eyes,
My backyard’s best, a boarder’s paradise.

Costco card Christmas for kids 2006
To the tune of "Jolly Old St Nicholas"
Go to Costco get a cart,
Plan your strategy.
Find a gift you’d love to have.
Buy it rapidly.
As you enter, a LaGoon pass
Hits you in the face.
Next to that’s a movie pass
Or a leaded crystal vase.
Home or office on aisle three;
Pots on row eleven--
Not the kind you smoke, but still
There are plants on aisle thirty seven.
The cold room has vegetables
Nearby is small appliance;
Of course the fun computer games
Might let you form an alliance.
Propel, water, soda pop,
Near the laundry soap;
Frozen foods or home decor
Or licorice by the rope.
Clothes for boys and clothes for girls
Clothes for mom and dad
Fill up all the middle aisles
To keep you nicely clad.
Maybe you want vitamins
Or books and dvd’s.
Bicycles might be your want
But Ipods also please.
As you celebrate this year,
Please do keep in mind,
All the love we feel from you.
That is the greatest gift to find.
Girls Camp 2006
From the “Emerald City”/
To the “Emerald Pools”/
Your “trail” will be easy/
If you follow His rules./
Our Savior has shown us/
How to “Come Unto Him”,/
So follow His light/
And never be dim.
Christmas friend poem 2006
‘Twas the year before Christmas
And back at my home,
I saw something stirring. . .
A witch or a gnome.
I thought about stockings
To get just for fun,
But the witches were tempting;
They were bought, I was done.
With all of the Christmas
Decor in our homes,
I thought Halloween
Might be good for these gnomes.
Then I had a new idea
Right there in my head,
So the witches were put off
‘Til this year instead.
Then we went to Honduras;
The cornhusk dolls were cute.
And I thought, “I’ll give both.
My friends won’t give a hoot.”
But one more thing popped
Into my little brain;
So I made a cd
(And it was quite a pain).
Now Shauna, now Marilyn,
Now Bonnie, now Trice,
I really must tell you
I feel blessed and pleased
With the friendship we’ve forged
Over so many years,
As we’ve shared in our moments
Of laughter and tears.
So the songs I’ve included
Are songs about friends;
And how blessed you should be
For the love that you send
To so many people
In so many ways.
It’s a wonderful world,
And I’m singing your praise.
This poem is now ended.
I’m all out of rhyme;
Except for to wish you
A great Christmas time!
